GOOSE HOLLOW INN SINCE 1967
Happy 40th Birthday, Goose!
To you loyal "Goose 40th" supporters-
I want to extend an enormous voice of appreciation to you all: whether
present in kind thoughts, by extension of your stories, or by attending the
party, you made it a success!
Even though it was to start at 4 pm, the Goose was filled at 11:30 a.m., and
Teri didn’t stop cooking until she got off her shift at 5. After that, the
night crew, and additional staff, didn’t stop to take a break until closing.
They were/are phenomenal.
The band, Up at Seven, complemented the mood and elevated the great vibe.
They were going to play until 8, and couldn’t stop either. Maybe it was the
dancing started by Nancy and continued by others that inspired the continued
party atmosphere.
Maybe it was “Club Goose”, the tented area out the back doors, that spiked
the party punch. It was christened early by Bud --We made sure that nobody
took his seat: “Bud’s chair” read the sign -- and maintained a vivacious
crowd until party’s end. Jason and the boys made a fortress of sweatshirts
and other attractive goose wear and charmingly convinced a few people to
pick up a shirt or two (a talent that not many Clarks over time have been
good at, as beer sales have dominated our forces.)
Not long after 4, the whole back parking lot was gushing with friends. So
was the inside of the Goose, as well as the deck. Meanwhile inside, the
henna tattoo artist, Sanya, was applying tawny geese to staff and customers
as fast as she could…
About 6, dad rallied his forces and gave a little speech, appreciating his
clientele and guests in fitting Bud form. You all made him very happy. John
Wendeborn talked about old times, since he worked for Bud way back. Rachel
showed everyone that she did follow through on her draft of Goose Stories,
then she and Antonia gave out first run of Goose Hollow ___ imperial pint
glasses. (Yes, the printer forgot “Inn”, but now we can use them at the
Goose at the Cove in Seaside or in Portland – nothing a sharpie can’t
handle.)
The party continued, made it to the news, with even the anchor crew on KGW
laughing at the notion that the party would end at 8. They were right.
Thank you to our award-winning staff and to my great family and to the
extended family of Goose customers, here, now, past, present, and future.
Thanks for being there.
